The role:

The Blasting Foreman is appointed in terms of Section 7(4) of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Act 29 of 1996, read with Minerals Act Regulation 2.9.2, in force and effect in terms of Schedule 4.4 of the MHSA.

 

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Ensuring that all Safety, Health, Environmental and Production targets are achieved through leading and motivating employees
  • Legal responsibility for all activities under his/her control with regards to safety
  • The supervision of the blasting team and support machinery
  • Communicates all relevant legal and operational policies, procedures, standards and guidelines and ensures that these are implemented and complied with
  • Collaboration with other sections to compliment the operational value chain
  • Managing costs to meet budget requirements

 

You will need:

  • Grade 12 with Math, Science and English or Equivalent
  • Programme in Technical and Operational Surface Mining Excellence
  • NQF Level 4 - Further Education and Training Certificate in Mining Operations
  • OC Rock Breaking / OC Blasting Qualification
  • Minimum 2 years appointed as a Non-Section Miner / Blasting Assistant
  • Good knowledge of equipment capabilities and operation thereof
  • Proven safety and attendance track record
  • An understanding of legislation relating to the mining industry. e.g. Mine, Health and Safety Act, Explosives Act, Minerals Act and Environmental Legislation, Basic Conditions of Employment and the Labour Relations Act
  • Sound interpersonal, time management and communication skills
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Planning skills
  • Conflict management skills
  • Decision making skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Be able to read and interpret plans
  • Computer literate: MS Office
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport is essential
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
