The role:

The role is to lead a survey team to perform survey field work and associated functions. This will be achieved by being a leader that plans daily activities, organizes manpower and equipment and controls the team output to clients. Assists the Section Surveyor with quality control of survey data and releasing of correct and accurate reports.

 

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Establish directional control and measurement of volumes in the workings of the mine, opencast or underground
  • Taking over the duties of a Surveyor when required to ensure continuous operation of the survey functions
  • Act in the position of the Section Surveyor when required
  • Manage all survey work in area of responsibility.
  • Using CAD and volumetric design software, approved by the business, for capturing and calculation of survey information according to standards
  • Conduct Volumetric Surveys of:
    • Mining volumes and generation of plans for mining
    • Compilation of production reports and ad hoc reports
    • Provide input to Section Surveyor regarding production results and figures
  • Drafting of Survey Notes
  • Measuring of water levels at dams
  • Actively participate in on-site job safety assessments.
  • Operation of a GPS for tache surveying and staking of mining limits
  • Operating a theodolite or total station
  • Place survey markers for survey control or for staking on surface or underground
  • Ensure clean survey equipment / vehicles
  • Calibration of survey instruments in use
  • Compiling of plans for Mining Operations
  • Staking boreholes, direction lines & planned work
  • Drone measurements, Scanning and photogrammetry processing

  

Requirements:

  • BTech, BSc, National Diploma, National Higher Diploma or CoM advanced survey certificate OR CoM elementary survey certificate and demonstrated competencies. (Recognition and recommendation for prior learning / experience by a survey manager)
  • 3 years’ experience as Surveyor
  • Membership of IMSSA
  • Intermediate knowledge of: Mine Health and Safety Act, Act 29 of 1996 as amended Minerals Act, No. 50 of 1991, Minerals and Petroleum Development Act., Section 9 of the Mines and Works Act, No 27 of 1956
  • Intermediate knowledge of ISO9001, ISO 14001, ISO45001 and the company’s HSE standards
  • Knowledge of relevant Seriti operational policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge of survey software packages
  • Able to calibrate and adjust instruments
  • Knowledge and understanding of Surveying principles, mining methods and relevant legislation
  • Ability to operate survey equipment accurately and safely
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, modify and maintain software models to calculate coal / waste material volumes on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Demonstrated ability in effective monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Advanced operation of CAD and Survey software such as: MicroStation, Terrasolid, Model Maker
  • Computer literacy in MS Office & SAP
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
