The role:
The scheme supports top students to obtain tertiary education in a specified field of study at a recognised & and registered Higher Education and Training Institution (mainstream South African University or the University of Technology).
Seriti is offering bursaries in 2026 for students registered at Universities in the following fields:
- Electrical & Mechanical Engineering
- Environmental
- Geology
- Mine Surveying
- Mining Engineering
- VOHE (Ventilation & Occupational Hygiene Engineering)
Application requirements (Who can apply?):
- Students currently studying towards a degree or diploma (NQF7) in any of the disciplines mentioned above who will be in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study in 2026 at a registered tertiary institution
- Hons students accepted for Geology and Environmental applicants only
Requirements:
- Applicants must be a South African citizen
- Copy of latest results
- Average above 60%
- Brief CV
- Official registration at a tertiary institution and studying toward the required field and year of study
- Basic understanding of relevant legislation about the Mining Industry including the Mine Health and Safety Act
Value of Bursary:
- Tuition fee payment for 2026 (excluding the previous year’s failed subjects/modules and any outstanding tuition fees and interest charged)
- Payment of accommodation & meals
- Pocket money
- Book allowance
- Once-off allowance for a laptop
Terms & Conditions:
- Final bursary contract is dependent on the official registration for the 2026 academic year including the results of the previous year of study (2025)
- Obligation to provide vacation work and work back obligation for students upon completion of their studies (depending on business needs at the time)
- Specific focus will be placed on students from our local communities
- Applicants who are beneficiaries of any other Bursary or Sponsorship Programme are not eligible to apply
- Must study full-time
- 1st year students are not eligible to apply
- Students studying a bridging course, or are in a foundation year are not eligible to apply
